UCPN (Maoist) leaders press for investigation into China visit scandal

KATHMANDU, Dec 13: UCPN (Maoist) is set to launch an investigation into the recent incident in which real quake survivors were deprived of visiting China while two relatives of the party’s top ranking leaders were sent instead.
The decision was taken at the ongoing Central Committee meeting after leaders demanded an investigation into the scandal which they lamented had diminished the party’s standing.

UCPN (Maoist) central member Hemraj Bhandari proposed for an internal investigation in the party while another central member Ganga Karki demanded a commitment for ending the increasing trend ‘selfishly driven motives’.
Home Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet, one of the ministers representing UCPN (Maoist) in the government, recently sent UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s grand- daughter and his own daughter for China visit in name of victims of the recent massive earthquake. The government was required to send the real victims of the earthquake to China.
Dahal assured of an investigation into the matter after the leaders vehemently pressed for the same under any circumstances.
In the CC meeting ongoing for the last ten days and the Standing Committee meeting held on Saturday, leaders have slammed the ministers representing the party in the government accusing them of ‘incorrect’ working style and of bypassing the party’s mechanism formed for monitoring the government’s activities.
At least eight CC members spoke during the meeting on Sunday, said UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma adding that three CC members would speak on Monday.
The CC leaders also pressed for a general transformation in the party, end to the burgeoning opportunism seen in the party and for translating the word ‘transformation’ in behaviour and not just in document, according to Sharma. RSS
